Fine Karaja Carpet
Dating to the last quarter of the 19th century, this handsome Karaja Carpet from North-West Persia has many outstanding features. First, it is an excellent size, rarely found in carpets of this region and period, and would work well in many decorative schemes both contemporary and period. The wool quality is exceptional, very soft and fleecy. The dyes are all derived from natural sources , and have harmonised over the generations. But I particularly like the design which is composed of stylised floral and geometric ornaments arranged in an all-over design. It is dramatic and graphic, and has an armorial feel to it. Cherished over the generations, it has survived in very good condition and in good pile. The selvages have been restored and it has been professionally cleaned in our own workshop.
