Fine Caucasian Rug
Probably woven around Erivan, Armenia, around 1900, this lovely rug has a very crisp interpretation of the Chi-chi design seen on 19th century East Caucasian rugs. Finely knotted with good quality wool and subtle colours derived from natural dyes, the detailed field design is complemented by a finely drawn border with repeating geometric motifs on a mid-blue field. The whole composition is finely drawn and very attractive. Cherished through the generations, it has survived in very condition, and has recently been professionally cleaned.
